Concept of Higher Order Learning

Hello,
Have you had problems trying to remember important things ?
Probably yes.
The reason being we study in lower order of learning. We try to remember the content and understand it. Just understand it.
Einstein says, if you can’t explain something simply then you don’t understand it.
This is why you have to do more than just understanding.
Here is when the concept of higher order learning comes in.
Higher order leaning includes remembering and understanding as a base of other steps. The major aspects of higher HOL is, we have to learn to apply it, analyse it, evaluate it and create from it.
Teachers encourage us in school for learning in lower order. But then, the exam contains higher order learning questions. Questions that asks us to apply, analyse, evaluate the learnt concepts.
Higher order learning enables us to relate concepts with each other. Comparing things with each other makes us think about the use cases and the importance of the concept. This allows us to better understand the information in the first go instead of relearning everything every time exams come near.
In Lower Order Learning (LOL), we ask: What is it ?
In Higher Order Learning (HOL), we ask:
Why is it important ?
How does it relate to other info ?
How will I use this info?
I suggest to use HOL over LOL. It will take more efforts but at the exam time, you will still be able to remember all the things you learnt.
Of course, there are some things in which HOL can’t be applied such as random dates, numbers, names, enzymes, etc.
For now, nothing can’t be done for this but there will be a legend born who will figure this out.
Have a great week!
